Leaving your Brno dorm in June 2027

Common questions

• Where can I store my stuff in Brno over the summer?Not at your dorm. You can keep your bed, rent self-storage, take it home, leave it in a friend's room or use Dormbox. See Summer storage options.
• Do VUT dorms have summer storage?No. KaM used to rent a storage room for 50 CZK a month, but it is gone from the price list valid from 13 April 2026. See VUT dorms.
• What happens if I leave things in my dorm room?At VUT they are moved out the day after your contract ends and count as abandoned after a month. At MUNI they are cleared out and stored at your cost. See VUT dorms and MUNI dorms.
• Can I keep my dorm room over July and August?Maybe not your own room. In summer 2026 VUT and MUNI each kept only one building open, and you booked a summer bed in May at VUT and in June at MUNI. See VUT dorms and MUNI dorms.

VUT dorms (KaM)

Dorms: Pod Palackého vrchem (PPV), Purkyňovy koleje, Listovy koleje (Kounicova), Mánesovy koleje, Starý pivovar.

When do I have to be out?

Your 2026/27 contract ends on 30 June 2027 at the latest.

That is a Wednesday. On your last day the room has to be empty and you have to leave the dorm by 12:00.

How does check-out work?

1. Pick up a check-out slip (odhlašovací lístek) at your block reception.
2. Clean the room. Put the furniture back where it was. Empty and wash the wardrobe, bed and desk. Mop the floor, also behind the bed and the desk. Defrost and clean the fridge, starting the day before. Wash the radiator and the inside of the window.
3. Ask reception to call the cleaner. She checks the room and signs your slip, or asks you to clean more.
4. Return your bedding to the linen store. If it is closed, hand it in at reception.
5. Hand in your key and the signed slip at reception.

KaM (VUT's dorm office) says check-out is best done on weekdays between 7:00 and 14:00. Check your account in ISKaM first. If you owe nothing, you do not need to go to the accommodation office. Your deposit is sent to the bank account saved in ISKaM, so make sure it is right.

What does leaving late cost?

• Leaving late: 1,500 CZK plus the daily rate for every extra day.
• Leaving mid-month: you still pay the whole month.
• Room not cleaned properly: 1,000 CZK at PPV and Mánesovy koleje, 2,000 CZK at Purkyňovy and Listovy koleje.
• Dirty fridge: 1,000 CZK at Purkyňovy, Listovy and Mánesovy koleje.
• Lost key: 1,000 CZK.

What happens to things left in the room?

From the day after your contract ends, KaM can move anything left in the room to a storage area. After 1 month it counts as abandoned, and KaM can charge you for the damage this causes.

Is there storage at the dorm?

KaM used to rent a storage room for 50 CZK a month. It is in the January 2025 price list and gone from the list valid from 13 April 2026.

What about summer?

In summer 2026 VUT kept one building open: Listovy koleje, block C03, from 30 June to 7 September. Foreign students already living in the dorms booked it in person at the accommodation office (block A03, 2nd floor, door 028) from 11 to 25 May 2026. A summer stay had to be at least 30 days. KaM publishes which buildings stay open each summer from the start of April.

When can I move back in?

In 2026 move-in was 7 to 13 September. Teaching starts on Monday 20 September 2027.

Can I keep the same room next year?

In 2026 current residents booked their room for next year in March: online from 2 to 19 March, and foreign students in person from 2 to 20 March.

MUNI dorms (SKM)

Dorms: All SKM MUNI dorms: Koleje Vinařská, Koleje Tvrdého, Koleje Kounicova, Koleje Klácelova, Mánesova, Náměstí Míru, Veveří and Komárov (Sladkého, Bratří Žůrků).

When do I have to be out?

Your 2026/27 contract ends on 30 June 2027 at the latest.

Your last day is the end date in your own contract, and it can be earlier than 30 June. You hand the room over to a staff member by 12:00 on that day. In 2026 Vinařská block A3 closed on 31 May, so if you live in A3, check your date now.

How does check-out work?

Leave the room as you found it, allowing for normal wear. Hand it over to the staff member, who confirms it and writes down any damage. You can add your own comment to that record. Return your keys and sign out of the dorm's records. Pay anything you owe within 30 days. MUNI does not give you bedding, so there is none to return.

What does leaving late cost?

For every day you are late, you pay the daily rate plus 10 %. Handing over a room that is not cleaned costs 2,500 CZK. A lost room key costs 700 CZK.

What happens to things left in the room?

SKM (MUNI's dorm office) can clear the room and store your things at your cost. After the period set by law they count as abandoned. SKM does not say how long that is or what storing them costs.

Is there storage at the dorm?

The SKM price list for extra services has no storage option.

What about summer?

In summer 2026 only MUNI's Koleje Kounicova (Kounicova 50, not VUT's Listovy koleje) stayed open the whole time. Koleje Klácelova was the backup if Kounicova filled up. Koleje Vinařská blocks A1 and A2 and Koleje Tvrdého closed on 30 June. Vinařská block A3 closed on 31 May. All reopened on 1 September. In 2026 current residents booked a summer bed at Kounicova from 1 to 12 June, and everyone else from 15 to 22 June, by email. A double room at Kounicova costs 255 CZK a night at the current price list.

When can I move back in?

In 2026 you could choose a move-in date from 1 to 13 September. Vinařská opened on 1 September at 6:00 with a 24-hour reception.

Can I keep the same room next year?

In 2026 current residents booked their own bed for next year in May.

LF, FF and FaF also have an extra exam period from 23 August to 3 September. PrF has one from 30 August to 10 September.

MENDELU dorms

Dorms: Koleje Akademie, Koleje J. A. Komenského, Tauferova kolej.

When do I have to be out?

We could not find the end date of the 2026/27 contract in MENDELU's published documents. Check your own contract. In June you can leave without written notice and you pay only up to the day you leave.

How does check-out work?

Check-out is only on working days, in office hours.

1. Return your bedding at the linen store and get it confirmed on your form.
2. Hand the room over to the cleaner. The room and the shared areas have to be clean and as you found them. The cleaner confirms your form.
3. Go to the accommodation office with the confirmed form and your key. They settle your account.

In June, July and August you pay in cash or by card at the office or reception, not by direct debit.

What does leaving late cost?

Not leaving the room by the end of your contract costs 2,000 CZK. Cleaning a very dirty room costs 800 CZK. A lost key costs 1,500 CZK.

What happens to things left in the room?

We could not find a rule for this.

Is there storage at the dorm?

The MENDELU fee list has a bike room but no storage for your things.

What about summer?

We could not find a summer notice.

When can I move back in?

You have to move in by the Friday of the week teaching starts.

Can I keep the same room next year?

In 2026 current residents booked their own bed from 1 to 10 April.

VETUNI (Kaunicovy koleje)

Dorm: Kaunicovy koleje (Kaunicovy studentské koleje, Králova 45).

When do I have to be out?

There is no single end date.

Your contract covers the teaching and exam period of your faculty, and your last day is the end date in your own accommodation contract. If there is space, you can stay longer, into the summer. Check your contract or ask the accommodation officer, Mgr. Zlata Lavičková (lavickovaz@vfu.cz).

How does check-out work?

1. Put the room back the way you found it.
2. Hand it over to the dorm staff member. If they find damage, you can add your comment to the defects report (protokol o zjištěných závadách).
3. Return anything the dorm lent you, your dorm ID card and your key.
4. Sign out of the dorm's records.

Any overpayment is refunded within 30 days. Anything you owe, you pay in cash when you leave. The dorm office is open Monday and Wednesday 7:30 to 11:00 and 13:00 to 15:30, and Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 to 11:00. There are no office hours on Friday. VETUNI does not publish check-out hours.

What does leaving late cost?

• Leaving late: there is no published fee. If the room is not cleared by your end date, you risk forced eviction and paying for any damage. The dorm director sets the amount.
• Room not cleaned: there is no published fee.
• Lost key: 300 CZK. Lost chip card: 500 CZK. Lost dorm ID card: 100 CZK.
• Ending your contract early: you pay two months of fees, and your 2,000 CZK deposit is kept.

What happens to things left in the room?

The dorm rules say nothing about it. They only say the room has to be cleared by your end date.

Is there storage at the dorm?

There is no storage for your things. The only storage is a bike room in the basement of block A.

What about summer?

VETUNI has no separate summer notice. The rules let you stay for the rest of the year if there is space. June to August is paid in cash when you check out. At the price list valid from 1 August 2026, a bed costs 139 to 172 CZK a night in block A, and 199 CZK in a double or 270 CZK in a single in block B.

When can I move back in?

In 2026 move-in was 31 August to 4 September and 7 to 11 September. Hours were Monday to Thursday 8:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00, and Friday 8:00 to 12:00.

Can I keep the same room next year?

In 2026 current residents booked the same room on 5 and 6 May. A room change, and new residents, were on 7 and 8 May. Booking was online in ISKaM, after paying the 2,000 CZK deposit.

When do exams end?

At VETUNI the summer exam period starts on 24 May 2027, and summer holidays start on 5 July 2027.

JAMU (Kolej Astorka)

Dorm: Kolej Astorka.

When do I have to be out?

Your contract ends on 30 June at the latest.

How does check-out work?

Put the room back as you found it and hand it over to the staff member. Return anything you borrowed, your accommodation card and your key, and sign out of the dorm's records. Pay for any damage.

What about summer?

Over the summer Astorka becomes a hotel for the public. Students can only stay over the summer for study or research, on a list their faculty sends in by 30 June. The hotel keeps luggage after check-out only by arrangement with reception, and that is a service for hotel guests.

When do exams end?

At the Faculty of Music (HF) the summer exam period runs from 24 May to 30 June 2027. We could not find the Theatre Faculty (DF) dates.

We could not find a late fee, a rule for things left in the room, or move-in dates.

Summer storage options in Brno for students (2027)

None of the five Brno universities offers a storage room for students' belongings over summer 2027: VUT dropped its 50 CZK a month storage room in April 2026, and the MUNI, MENDELU and VETUNI fee lists have no storage item; JAMU's Astorka keeps luggage only for its summer hotel guests.

• Keep your bed

  Keeping your bed for July and August costs about 8,500 CZK at VUT (Listovy koleje, double room) and about 15,800 CZK at MUNI (Kounicova, double room) at the current price lists. At VUT and MUNI only one building stayed open in summer 2026, so you may have to move anyway.

• Rent self-storage yourself

  A box L at BOXBOX in Černovice costs 5,370 CZK for 3 months. A container at ABC Minisklady in Královo Pole starts at 2,200 CZK a month. You need a car to get your things there and back.

• Take it home

  On Smartwings, each extra bag costs 1,000 CZK per flight if you pay at least 36 hours before. That is 2,000 CZK for one extra bag there and back.

• A friend's room

  Free, if a friend stays in Brno and their building is open all summer.

• Dormbox

  1,800 CZK on the waitlist, 2,200 CZK standard, for up to 3 boxes or suitcases of up to 20 kg each. Each extra one is 400 CZK. We collect at your dorm between the end of exams and 30 June, store them in Brno and bring them back in September. Book with a friend and you each get 200 CZK off. This is our first summer. Checklist before you leave

1. Check your last day in your contract. At VUT and MUNI you have to be out by 12:00.
2. Plan check-out for a weekday. MENDELU only does it on working days in office hours, and VUT recommends weekdays 7:00 to 14:00.
3. Take everything out of the room, including the fridge and the wardrobe.
4. Clean the room and put the furniture back. At VUT, defrost the fridge the day before.
5. Get the room checked. At VUT and MENDELU the cleaner checks it and signs your slip or form.
6. Return your bedding to the linen store. VUT and MENDELU only. At MUNI the bedding is yours.
7. Hand in your key, plus your accommodation card at JAMU and your dorm ID card and chip card at VETUNI.
8. Check your account and pay what you owe. At VUT check ISKaM. At MENDELU you settle at the office. At MUNI you have 30 days.
9. At VUT, check that your bank account in ISKaM is right, because your deposit goes back there.
